I just noticed that my Firestone tires (on truck when I bought it) have cracks in the sidewall. They look pretty deep and they are in the middle by the lettering. I know tires can do that if they sit for years but I have put 40k miles on them in 2 years (with rotatations). Any thoughts????
That cracking is usually due to UV damage from exposure to sunlight. Miles on the tire is not really a factor in this sort of damage. If the tires are significantly cracked, I'd replace them.
Other than keeping your truck parked out of direct sunlight there is little you can do to prevent UV damage. It is possible that a UV blocking coating (something like sun-tan lotion but for tires) would help. Maybe one of the popular tire dressings is also a UV blocker.
I had Michelins LTX's that developed that affliction at about 5 years old but plenty of tread life left... I had a tire place look at them and they said they were very dangerous & should be replaced at once.
I don't know if It's because I'm cheap or crazy (or both) but I ran them until the tread was gone. To this day they are holding air. (Results may vary...I am by no means suggesting you should follow my example, but it worked for me.)

Thanks for the input. If I were only driving the truck I would probably chance it but I tow 12k lb 5th wheel a lot so I will replace them. Thanks for the info though.
Most all tire shines will draw the UV protection right out of the rubber. Aero Space 303 will help but it sounds like it will be too late in your case.
