I am in the midst of re-wiring my EFI setup in a 74 Bronco. I had in running for awhile, then decided to swap in a new harness. The only item I cannot remember how to wire is the neutral safety switch on the AOD. I had it jumped out for a while, but now I have to go through safety inspection so I need the backup lamps to work. Situation is as follows.
91 Mustang AOD in 74 Bronco. Engine harness is Ford Motorsport EFI conversion harness; chassis electrical is original Bronco harness.
The NSS/backup lamp switch on the AOD has for wires. The NSS wires are red/blue tracer (wire 32 in Helm Mustang manual; listed as "starter control") and white/pink tracer (wire 33 in Helm Mustang manual; listed as "starter control to interlock module"). When the truck is in Park or Neutral, the circuit is closed. I have a feeling one of these goes to the Starter Relay? Is that correct? If not, where do they go?
The backup lamp portion has two wires, black/pink tracer (wire 140 in Helm Mustang Manual) and purple/orange tracer (listed as wire 298 in Mustang Helm manual). The circuit is closed when the transmission is in Reverse. How is this one wired? Does it wire directly to the reverse lights? 12V on one side and the other side to the lights?
You really need the pinout of the switch to match the wires up. The wire that triggers the starter relay (R/LB 32) should come from a terminal of the NS switch that is ONLY connected to 1 other when the trans is in P or N. That 1 other terminal should ultimately come from the start pin on the ignition switch, possibly thru the W/Pk wire, but certainly a wire that's ONLY hot when the key is in the Start position.
The backup lights should come from a pin that's only connected to 1 other when the trans is in R. That other pin should be connected to a wire that's only hot when the engine is running.
