hi all first post here needing some help 89 bronco ll 4x4 XLT manual 4 speed w/ od all original have lost power and got over taken by a dang moped the other day cant get above 55 mph on flat ground 30 going up hill have done a tune-up wires plugs cap rotor gas filter air filter runs fine at idle no misses tried pulling codes and i keep getting code 86-89, 89 from what i read is for the clutch converter override which is strange cause i have manual trans 4 wheel drive works fine both high and low range. code 86 is for shift solenoid.
when i try to get any codes with it running i get code 74 - 77 74 is brake circuit failure 77 is operator error dynamic response/cylinder balance test any ideas as to what to check for thanks guys
When you get nonsense codes and loss of power, it is almost always a bad TFI module. I have had a few of them go.
The other thing I have found is they usually go right before the radiator, so I would suspect your engine might be warmer then it should be. I would power flush the whole cooling system.
thanks i should have taken the code book and thrown it away and went with my gut feeling it was the catalystic converter changed it runs great again. i will keep an eye on radiator
