Question got a Stroker question...

I was wondering how would I make make my 302 into a 347 Stroker? I've heard that I could take a crank from a 351W and have it turned so the journals would fit into a 302 blolck. But it can't just be that simple? can it? Also what else would I need to turn a 302 into a 347? Anyway just wondering....future project down the road. Also I know there is the FAQ deal. And I did a search on that for this and nothing savy? Sojust wondering, just courous. Thanks

cheaper to buy the stroker kits or just a stroker crank these days.

Google search "stroker cranks", look here first:

www.ScatCrankshafts.com

Read comments about the 347 here. The last comment I read talked about the piston pin being in the oil ring area due to overall rod/piston height issues. This is questionable for long term street use.

A stroker is a great solution if you need to pack as many cubic inches into the most compact package. However you often run into compromises at the displacement limit for any given block, the short deck height on the 5.0 block requires a compromised piston that will reduce overall life. A 351 will produce the same power as a 347 given the same heads and intake, and when there is lots of room for the slightly bigger block as there is in a truck, there's no good reason not to use the more reliable version.

I see...but isn't the 351 heaver though? And if it's heaver then won't that off-set the more power that it has if I set it up the same as my 302 now? Or scense the 351 has more displasment it wouldn't matter much?
I would like my truck to be able to be as light as possible with the most power possible using the same bellhousing, engine towers, etc... as I have now.....NOS anyone ha ha ha.

The difference in weight of the 2 blocks isn't worth talking about.. especially in a truck, both bolt up to the same trannys and use the same engine mounts. A 347 or 351 will make SOOOO much more TQ than your current 302 it's not funny, you won't notice a few extra pounds in the engine bay. BTW.. the single best thing you could do to improve the performance of your truck besides a bigger motor is install some gearing, 3.55 or 3.73's would really help, but an OD tranny becomes necessary if you want respectable milage.

Alrighty thanx. Speaking of gears and such, what gears would be good for optimum performance but yet get about 15 or more mpg? with 31x10.5 R 15 tires? I wanna go to 33" or 35" tires later down the road. SO; 3.55 or 3.73 or 4.10?
