I did research on putting the tank in but my questions is can I use the original fuel sender unit from the orignal tank and put it in the new bronco tank?? I was also wondering if i can use a gas sender with desiel? Any inout would be great.
Thanks,
Greg
The original sender can be used but needs to be modified to reach the bottom of the tank. Both the pickup tube and level sender would be too short.
As for the gasser sender I don't know for sure. the gasser uses an electric in tank pump but if you were able to remove that and rig a pickup tube in I think the connector for the level gauge is the same.
I used 3/8 brake line and a compression fitting to extend it. Some have reported using brake line and pulling the tank later to find it rusty so SS would be good it you can find some
Definately a good idea for the pickup line.
My question (not to hijack too much, but...) is can you have Two Bronco tanks? (for a 66 gal total..) i think that would be awesome. 1000-1200 mile cruise range... lol

I have a 100 gal transfer tank that feeds my front tank.......one of these days I will run everything empty to find out my range.
Dang... that'd be a total of about 130 gallons. ( i have yet to fill up more than 29 gallons with stock tanks. ) so for me, 130*16mpg= 2080 miles... but it would probably drop b/c of the weight lol.

Its a big hole in the wallet at fill up time too......when I am on the road it gets filled at least 2 times a week
hey TJ, So far this has been a pretty easy job for me. I extended the pickup line so far but was wondering what or how did you put the fuel level sender. Did you happen to bend the pipe again? I'm at this step now, So any help would be great from anyone.

that is the hardest part of the job. I removed the arm and mechanism from the backing plate and broke that loose of the tubing. then welded it on a few inches lower after doing a bunch of guessing and trial and error. I also extended the float arm with some other thin steel rod from another sending unit I had laying around. I forgot to take pictures of that sender complete to show you

the 85 uses a smaller, different sending unit that i don't think plugs into the truck harness. thats why most either modify the newer bronco sender or modify the truck sender to fit the tank.
