I was wondering if you guys could give me your .02$ on my truck. Altho my truck is not on the road yet i just finished building it, (1984 inline6 4spd 4x4 shortbox) i have taken it out on the road a few times and it feels as though it is a real low geared truck. When i hit 70km/h(50 sompthin miles) the engine was realy reving high. I would realy like to at least hit the speed limit i was hoping someone could give me some insite on this?
Being it's 4X4 it's is highly likely it has a high numeric rear axle and a non-OD 4 spd tranny, both black marks if you're looking to keep rmps down and save on fuel.
I know that it does have a beefy gear ratio because when i put the axle back together i compared it to the old f100 2wd axle, i also know it was a plow truck and posibly a towtruck. I wonderd if maby it was in 4wd low but i got the shifter pushed all the way forward into 2high, at least thats what the shifter says, im going to play with it more and see what happens.
I put up a gallery but i cant find it, when i figer out how to use the gallery ill post some pics.
Sounds like it could be in low ... And also consider that the olde 4-speeds were geared low anyway ... All my olde bowties couldn't get much over 50 either ...
Well its deffinetly not in low i just tryed it in low and i was crusing around the farm in 4th doing 10-20km/h(very slow i managed to do a 4wd burnout) i guess im just going to have a slow truck. pics coming soon.
