Ive been sick for a cupole of weeks so i havent driven my truck. Yesterday i drove it for the first time and it just didnt feel right. First off when i let of the gas it felt like i was in low gear, it just slowed right down. So on the next down grade i put the truck in neutral and coasted and it did the same thing, instead of speeding up it slowed down. So i went and got fuel and came home. When i got home i could smell something burning, like gear oil. So i walked the truck and the odor was coming from the drivers side rear wheel. I looked around and saw nothing leaking but could feal alot of heat, more than any other wheels on the truck. So at this point i am assuming that i have a frozen wheel bearing or a stuck brake. 32000 miles on the truck. Would letting it sit for a couple of weeks cause a rozen bearing ? And if so is it a big job to replace ? any thoughts would be appreciated.
Truck is a 2006 f250 6.0 with 32000 miles.
Thanks in advance to all.
I would check over the brakes. You probably have a frozen caliper pin or caliper. If you were out of gear oil, the rear end would have a really loud whine at speed until finally a clunk. If the one caliper was hanging up, you'd heat the disc constantly, possibly heating the gear oil slightly more than normal and it would cause you drag.
thanks guys, i will check the brakes. It looks like it got pretty hot, everything is a rusty color now. Even though i havent used the barking brake it may still freeze up ?

Well, if you haven't used it, then, no, unless it was stuck before and you didn't notice it.
it might be the brake pad hanging up.
I believe there is a TSB on it (?)
There are a few threads pertaining to this if you do a search on rear brakes overheating.
I didnt see any tsbs on them, and i think i have used my parking brake once in 2 years. I think ill call the dealer tomm and have them look at it seeing that it is still under warrenty. I will update you all when i get an answer. Thanks for all of your help.
