broken slip yoke
Anybody ever seen one snap? Mine broke when i was backing up with a load of wood? What exactly is it called? Its the one that goes into the transfer case on the rear shaft

It happens... You should be able to pull the old one out and replace it with a new one. Pick one up at the local scrap yard if you are feeling inclined. Its a good opportunity to replace the u-joints while you have the drive shaft out.

Yea Its call a slip yoke or slip yoke assembly and yea they break.
Question is did anything else brake, is the tail housing OK? They tend to crack when that happens but doesn't mean yours did.
Look it over good and if you see nothing else wrong I just pick up a replacement shaft at the bone yard.
You could put a new yoke on your shaft but it may be bent now, either way its a trip to the bone yard.
If needed replace the u-joints before you put it back in. May have been a bad joint that caused the failure to start with.

Oh that part broke, thought you ment the spline area snaped.
Yea I'd just get a complete "used" shaft from a bone yard for 50 bucks. The cap "loops" may be bent all out of shape/alignment now if it let go completely. If bad enough you'd be replacing u-joints all the time.
