Transfer case linkage removal
Is there any way to remove the shift linkage bar that goes between the transmission and xfer case without grinding it? Its the piece of flat bar, about 10" long, 1" wide. Looks like both ends are riveted. Just glanced at it after work today and thats what it looks like... Chilton book says "remove it."

The TC shifter linkage rod? (or plate rather) It just pops off, and on, but be careful of the bushings when doing so. Spray with WD-40 or something to help slip it off over the bushings.
Can be hard to do, the bushings get hard over time so they don't give way and allow the plate to slide over them as easy as they once did.

Be very careful with the aluminum piece that houses the shift lever and contains the front plastic bushing. It's very easy to break when prying the link out of the bushing. If you only need to remove one side, I'd recommend doing it at the transfer case end.
