turn signal switch wiring
I am in need of some help. I have a 1967 F-100 that I am restoring and I am needing to wire a new turn signal switch into. Now the problem is that the turn signal switch is out of manual steering column and I have an automatic column to in the truck. So the delema is that the wiring colors are different from one another. Now I have the wiring colors for the manual switch and know were they go (thanks to the article on turn lights), but I do not and can not find the what the wire diagram is for the automatic column I have. The colors for the column are as such white/lt blue, green/white, lt blue, green/orange, orange/purple, dk blue/yellow, and dk green. All I am looking for is which wire does which so I can make the switch I have work with my column. If the previous owner hadn't cut the original switch out and threw it away then I would now which goes were. Thank you all in advance for your help. Steve
My best guess:
white/lt blue = RH front turn
green/white = LH front turn
lt blue = turn signal power in (from flasher unit)
green/orange = ?????
orange/purple = ?????
dk blue/yellow = LH rear turn/brake
dk green = RH rear turn/brake
One of the ???? must be brake power in. As for the other I cant think of anything right now. Sorry.
You could always go the long route and get an ohmmeter and start measuring.
The brake power in will have continuity to two wires when the switch is centered, these are the rear lights, and only one when selected right or left. If selected right it will have continuity to the the left only and vice versa.
The turn signal power in will have no continuity to any wire when the switch is centered, and to 2 wires when to the left and 2 when to the right.
You already know which is the rear right and left from the brake power check, so the other one of the 2 is the front light.
Hope this makes sense.
