Just received my half shafts from RockAuto and they look like they have been on a car already. Both the zip ties were cut and there is dirty grease in the splines. Also dings and scratches on one "cone". That going to affect anything? What do you guys think?
Yes, looks used. Probably someone bought it, installed it, drove it, and then found out the hubs were the problem. So they bought hubs, removed the shafts, and returned them.
i don't see any bolt head scratches on the inner mounts.
doesn't look like any grease was put in the inner CV back.
the boots are too clean for an install by any mechanics i know.
probably just opened, the repair person realized their problem was the hubs after dis assembly of the front drive
call RockAuto and see what they say.
are these the Cardone new manuf. or their rebuilds?
No those units where supposed to be brand new manufactured parts. It was their "select" line. I contacted Cardone and sent the same pictures. Cardone said that they are supposed to be NEW units and I should return the parts to Rockauto. There shouldn't be any grease present on the splines of the parts. It doesn't appear that the parts where fully installed. The inner mounts aren't scratched where the bolts would go.
When I buy new parts - I expect new parts !
Not one - but both of those units were sent out before and are "used". I have no doubt they were at least put into an axle assembly - both of them. Who knows - they could have been stressed from hanging or who knows what.
Not sure what I'm going to do yet. If I use them I will have to clean up the splines etc. I think they should give me a discount at the very least if I keep them...
I would post the message Cardone sent - but there is a confidentiality clause.

Hence my "as far as I know". Thanks for the info though, I never knew that they made new parts as well. I wonder if they suck as bad as the remans.
