6000 HP anyone?
So yesterday they started moving this massive steam generator up the back roads form Knoxville to St. Paul VA. 640 tons (804,000 LBS) , 23-foot-wide, 225-foot-long. Caught it today as it was sitting up getting ready to move through Morristown tonight. Stopped and got some pictures. Each pull truck is rated for 1000HP gotta love those big cat motors. The lead truck damaged its drive shaft and they were repairing it check out my albums.

Steve Sommers was talking about that last night on the ATN (American Truckers Network). According to a guy up in Pennington Gap, Va I talked to a month or so ago, they are not allowed to use the interstates. Steve Sommers said last night that it is about a 175 mile trip, and it will take them around 17 to 20 days to make the trip. A lot of work went into preparing for the trip. Power lines had to be raised, bridges had to be re-enforced. All the traveling is to be done at night, at a whopping speed of 10MPH!! And, if you come up behind it, you do not pass it. Don't know if you can see them in the pictures, but the trucks have planetary hubs on the rear axles. That makes for some serious gear reduction!
Edit; Just went back and looked at the pictures, and the red Oshkosh was the only one that I could tell had the planetary hubs. I have seen them on coal trucks before.

When I saw the thread title last night I could have sworn it said 600HP, and I assumed it was a powerstroke that someone had hopped up a good bit. I didn't click on the link then. This morning I see 6,000HP and I have to look.
Thanks for the pictures JD. That is awesome. I like that kind of thing and I just love all the logistical stuff that they have to work out in order to succeed in a venture such as this,
