Electrical problem, Bronco II 1989
A mechanic told me it was the coil, so I put a new coil in, the car started up and the ammeter jumped back and forth, same continuing problem.
b. I turned the car off, it started again, but the ammeter jumped back and forth again. Everytime it jumped, the anti lock light flickered on too, then off as the ampmeter resumed to normal (yesterday each time the car died while it was running the antilock light came a second before it died.)

c. I turned the car off and tried to start it, it would not. I cleaned the battery terminals off. Nothing. Plus all the power was off inside even with the key in both run, then accessory position. The radio light was off too.
4. Then I went out and a second time tried to jump the solinoid across and it just made a bunch of sparks, but the starter did not turn over.

Can someone tell me what is going on? Would a starter short cause all of the power to not be delivered to the rest of the car? Can a bad solinoid cause this? What?
