My '61/'62 has doors with power window in it. Currently the 2 wires are dangling from the motors waiting to be hooked up. The truck has been wired with a new EZ Wiring kit which is equipped with a power window wire conveniently labeled for me. What circuitry (i.e switch, relay, etc) do I need to make the windows go up and down? Thanks in advance for your help. Let me know if you need anymore info about the truck.
I suppose for your literal individuals (LOL) I should have specified that this is not an OEM setup......I just need a general how to if anyone has done this before.......Thanks for the feedback ND.
I've had my eye on this kit as well. Never actually seen one but my guess would be to follow the wires from the fuse-block that should say "power windows", and just put in the lighted switches that come with the kit or whatever 12v switches you choose. Like I said, I'm guessing in the dark but the EZ Wiring number is (386) 437-1077. I'm sure they can help you.
Good luck... let us know how they power windows are when you get them going!
Don't forget to post your results, and how you solved your problem. Also knowing how well it works would be good. I know I would be interested to know how it works out. I am sure there are others that would like to know as well. I have also seen the handle switches, it would be great to retain the original look.
Bookmarked this article off of Classic Truck Magazine article, it's not specific as to where the leads actually go, according to the article, 2 switches, 6 leads from each, 2 power, 2 gound, and up & down. Suggest contact the company's customer support, they should be able to advise you. If you don't have the info, including a link to the Power Window kit supplier from the article, if you contact their customer support dept. they should be able to help.
Power window wiring is a lot easier than it seems. What you need is a DPDT switch (Double Pole, Double Throw), those are the switches with six connections. Double pole means it's basically two separate switches in one, double throw means it works in two directions. You'll want one that is momentary contact, meaning it returns to OFF position when you let go of it.
Connect the wires from the motor to the two middle contacts, and connect hot and ground to the end contacts. Then, connect the other end with hot and ground opposite the first end. I drew a crude picture, hope it appears.
As for where to get the switch... you can get them at Radio Shack or your local parts store. The only consideration is appearance and mounting. Some parts stores have actual power window switches that are fairly generic, around here they're on the "Help!" rack with all sorts of other obscure parts. Just make sure that whatever switch you choose, it can handle the current load. I would recommend no less than 20 amp rating.
