the axle code on the door jam of my 86 F150 2x4 is 163.can anyone decode it?it doesnt match any of the codes i have seen.thanks jim

 

1 means open diff. 6 means 3.50 ratio.

Your trucks AXLE code decodes to two different things.

The first two digits are the rear axle code: 16 = 3.50-1 / non Limited Slip / 3750 lb. Rear Axle Capacity

The third digit in this case decodes to this: 3 = Power Steering Delete.

2 = 1980/89: Limited Slip Front Differential / 3 = 1983/89: Power Steering Delete / 4 = 1983/89: Power Brake Delete / 5 = 1983: Power Brakes.

hey i need help on this as well my axle code is 015 and i cant find that code anywhere and its and 82 f-100

 

15=1980/82----- 3.25 ratio
15=1983-------- 2.73 ratio

If the axle code begins with a letter: the vehicle has Limited Slip.
