#1 I read about these cracks in the door could somebody please describe this carefully or have a scanned picture of something.. this sounds serious and i would like to get the problem fixed also.. i have no idea what im looking for!
#2 my current style of driving is a little freeway and mostly streets i have been getting about 250 to a full tank on 89 using chevron gas and about 200 using 92 chevron gas "no its correct for some reason i get lower mileage with higher octane gas"
.. whats the average mileage you get with yours my truck currently has 70k just on it but has been taken care of EXCELLENTLY.....
#3 i currently am in need of new tires and my current size is 255/70/R16 I would like BFgoodrich A/T the next size tire up but i would like to hear what other experiences people have had with these tires or any good recommendations!
#4 Also i am Very curious about powerchips or my truck i dont care if i get 2 miles to the gallon i want more power !!!!!! "tool man style"
does anybody have any information on these?
#5 Last thing.. from anybodyz experiences what have been the very best spark plugs you have used.
For those of you that have read my junk here
thank you =) i await your feedback =)
Moose, Frank here. Ive got a 97 150 4x4 4.6 3.55gears. I went from 255/7016's to 285/7516's in the bfGoodrich AT's. They grip like mountains goats on 'roids. I put a 2" body lift on my truck (looks great) but with that gap in the wheel wells I went for the 285's and should not have! I strongly regret not going with the next sixe up as you are chosing to do. The 265/75r16's will be the best choice in the BFGoodrich AT's . If you go any larger , a gear swap would be in order, as I must now do and it's expensive or I'll have to eat the tires and go back to the 265 size.
My friend just pointed out the door crack to me tonight. I have a 98 I bought two weeks ago with 51k miles. The crack is on the drivers side window frame just up past the door handle on the outside. It may not be real evident (mine was only about a 1/4 in. wide) but it was there. Supposedly if you bring it to dealers attention they should replace it (free I don't know). There may be a "silent" recall on these door frames.
On your gas mileage: another friend of mine swears he gets the best gas mileage with Texaco-noticeably. My old truck could never be relied on to give me any king of consistent gas mpg readings so I can't corroborate his conclusions. I can tell you that the 85 F-150 I used to drive pinged with every gas but Texaco.

Hi Moose. I have a '97 XLT 4x4 ORP with cracks in both doors. It's a problem thru mid 2000's at least. Ford is not covering them off warranty - I also heard about a silent recall but that's as much as I know.
I have several articles on this saved - email me & I'll happily pass it along to you. My address is Cowlady18@cs.com - I can get it out to you right away.
Good luck with the truck. Despite the cracks I still love this truck! Bye for now!

LAST EDITED ON 10-Apr-01 AT 02:12 PM (EST)[p]I have a 98 f150 w/ a 4.6-71K miles. i usually get around 16-18 mpg, any kind of driving- mine has a 25 gal. tank and i usually fuel up around 325-340 miles. I also have a superchip so I am running 93 octan shell. The chip helped my power, but it really helped the shifting. I also have a poweraid tb spacer which is supposed to help your power and your fuel economy. I have split fire plugs in mine and haven't had any trouble out of them.
bosch platinum 4x4's are the only plugs I use anymore for any vehicle. I recently put them on my 97 full size 4.2. that along with a flowmaster 50 series flowtech muffler took my mpg up into the 25 range with 16 inch tires. went from 375 with light highway travel to nearly 430 on the same ride. plus the sound is nice and leagal too.
