Question - Drive Train Options from 1966
I'm new to this forum. I just bought a 1966 Ford F100 Stepside Shortbed to restore. The truck does not have an engine or transmission. It originally had the V8 and an automatic transmission.
This restoration is to make this truck a respectable daily driver. I am not setting out to show the truck or anything like that but rather to satisfy a personal desire to enjoy the sound and vibrations of the Ford 300 6 cylinder engine coupled with an automatic transmission.
Having decided on the 300 and not having either the engine the tranny, my questions are:
If I find a 300 with an automatic in another vehicle, is there a range of years I need to stick with for ease of installation and, if so, what is the maximum range of those years (for example 1962 thru 1978)?
I have a 300 engine I can buy that has this info on the tag: 300 65 1 4-H 832-J. It has C5AE-60150-D 4L20 cast into the block and the manifold has C5AE9430 on it. If I buy this engine what transmission will match it?
The trucks serial # is F10YE805752.
Thanks,
Mark
