For auto trans specialists. Is it ok to drive and tow with the TC unlocked? Here is what I´m dealing with. With my camper on bed and enclosed trailer behind, I have to drive well above the speedlimit to keep the TC locked. In tow/haul mode, TC unlocks at approx 2000 rpm, but when not in tow/haul it is locked down to approx 1500rpm (which is ok when wind is in the tail). It is kind of hard though to run it that way (egt tends to go up).
So do you guys think it´s ok to drive unlocked for extended period of time or not. Trans temp doesn´t go up but it sure feels better when it is locked.
ps. speedlimit where a live is 50 mph and truck is sitting on 37inch tall tires with stock 373 gearing
General economy tune from Matt
With 37s you really should regear, that will solve your problem. If not, you may need some shift point adjustments in your tuning. I have 35s with 3.73s and I have a set of 4.30s waiting to go in. You'll get better fuel economy with lower gears, towing or unloaded if you keep it under 65-70mph or so.
