Looking at upgrading the head unit in my new mini cooper, and was looking at the units that have the USB plugin in the front for flash drives. Anyone have experience with these units?
Anyone ever install this particular model:Pioneer DEH-P4000UB
Just wondering about the USB connection, since it's a cable from the back of the head unit, and not a front plugin like others.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions and opinions.
I think it would be better having the USB plug in the rear because you just add an extension cable to it and locate it anywhere you want as opposed to having a flashdrive or cable hanging out the front of the deck.
one of my buddies has a USB drive on his it has a plug at the front and his drive sticks out...its nice to have the memory and be able to put music from your comp. to it and such but i think i would break the USB drive if it was sticking out from the head unit...i would want to put it in a glove box or ash tray or something like that...just seems kind of vonerable out there...
I have that head unit. I have the USB cable hanging from behind the ash tray. I believe mine also came with an extension cable. I haven't used that feature yet because i still use CDs but I plan to use it eventually. It will be handy because I don't have an iPod, so this is a quick way to get music from the computer to the truck without burning CDs.
In general I like the head unit, but one thing I don't like is the multi-function ****. They're all coming like that nowadays and I hate it. It's wobbly and ugly. It's easy to accidently turn it when you mean to push one of the corners, or push the wrong corner, or push it when you're just trying to turn up the volume and then you end up in some menu. Like I said though, it's hard to get a decent deck nowadays that isn't that way. It's still a good deck though, I am a long time Pioneer fan.
Yes mine came with a remote, although I don't use it. What really confuses me about Pioneer decks is that it's hit and miss whether or not they actually include a case for the detachable face plate. Fewer and fewer models come with one included. I never leave my truck sitting with the faceplate because that's just asking for it where I live! I picked up a case for cheap on eBay. It keeps the screen from getting scratched.
My Kenwood DNX7100 has USB capabilities. The cable comes off the rear of the unit and I have in the glovebox. I have a 4 gig thumb drive connected to it with about a gig and a half of MP3's (approx 11 hrs of music) on it now. It works great. The only beef I have with it (could be Itunes related) is some songs play softer than others, so volume adjustments are needed. I have just started playing with the thumb drive and I hope to get this problem figured out soon. The things that I love about it most is that every song that is on it are songs that I can never get tired of listening to, and it plays continuously with no pauses.
