Ball Joint Press question

Well it's time to replace the ball joints in my 2004 F-250. I would like to get a press that will work on it and I have a Jeep cj 5 that will need ball joints soon. Can anyone reccoment a press that will work for both. I have racerguys writeup. ( Thanks) Does anyone have a good resource for the tool for intalling the seal also.
Thanks

Harbor Freight has them cheap but if you want a higher quality version I would recommend the OTC brand:

7249 - OTC 7249 Ball Joint Press Service Set Universal in Case

Got to advance auto parts and get their tool. If you return it in 90 days, you get all your money back.

I use a OTC press with the harbor freight adaptor kit. I have used these on many different makes and models over the years, and they work great!

Also you can buy a seal installer from OTC (part#6695) that will set the seal back in at the correct depth. This is important if youn have vacumn hubs.

The OTC looks like a good tool. Does anyone know if additional adaptors for the Super Duty ball joints, or will the selection in the kit work?
Thanks!

You can do it with the adaptors that come with the OTC clamp, but it's much easier with the adaptor kit from harbor freight. I just saw the kit at my local harbor freight for $49.99 on sale. The regular price is $99.99 and that is still a deal compaired to the OTC kit which is over $300.

for the price of the harbor frieght kit you can do like 5 trucks even if you did break one each time.

I bought the HF kit after doing my buddies ball joints we used my kit on mine - it worked wonderfully.

the other thing is where you buy the ball joints, they will likely let you use their tool

good luck

the one for the main seal "knuckle seal"

I think a homemade one does just as well... but you know you got a good one if you buy it, like i said I replaced mine using 3 c-clamps and that was over 1.5 years ago and lots of mud, never an issue

Of course since i bought that one I found several for less, same tool at summit is $45 plus shipping. THe last time i installed them I dammaged one a little, didn't have any scrap metal to match seal size, to make one. The tool will make life a little easier.
