I am selling a vehicle on ebay. last night an ebay member emailed me wanting to know my street address. didn't ask any questions about the vehicle, didn't say they were interested in setting up an appt to look at it or drive it.just asked where i lived. i emailed back trying to feel him out a little and asked if he knew the streets in the town I live in. he wouldn't answer yes or no,the next email I got from him was What is your address? I haven't answered him yet, just wondering if this a normal way of doing business? I am thinking about telling him if he wants to see the vehicle,i will just meet him somewhere besides my house. What else can i do?
Give him a cell phone number, and talk about it over that. Also, if you do decide to meet up.... do so in a public place (or in front of a police station )
he has 100% feedback, but has only bid on 3 things on ebay. I will be nice about it and suggest we meet somewhere besides my house,if that doesn't work he can fly a kite.
There has been a problem selling cars on Ebay in Indianapolis, IN. The perp places an ad on Ebay, starts cheap for a rare car or a muscle car. Gives a sob story. The "winner" meets the perp in a storage unit complex with cash. The perp grabs the money and runs! A father and son lost a lot of cash. Saw this in the news a while back. I know, I didn't think there were gullible people in this age, but there are!
I've always been worried about just that happening. I always bring someone along if I am bringing a lot of cash. I also like public places to meet, much harder to jump you or cause problems that way. To me there is no reason they need your address until the auction is over and someone wins. Also remember google earth is so good now that people can see back yards, fences and all kinds of things to scope your house out and rob it if they want.
I tell people to give me their daytime phone number and name and I will call them. In this case, since you feel uneasy, I would trust your 6th sense and meet in front of a police station or post office parking lot.
thanks for all of the advice. Come to find out it was a teenager. His dad emailed me back saying he was sorry for his sons actions. I talked to him on the phone. He is supposed to see it sometime this week,i told him he can call me and arrange a time and place to see it.

"Come to find out it was a teenager."
How do you know that's true?
If the "teenager" made the original inquiry, why is his "dad' interested in it?

Kinda doing a bait and switch there! Or he wants it for his kid. Meet in a place where there are video cameras so it can be recorded.
