Replaced the wrong %*&#@ part!
almost impossible to rebuild a vane type power steering pump so that it doesn't howl or make noise.
it costs more to machine the chamber and chromium replate it than new
a high percentage of this design Ford pump with the removable plastic echo chamber fluid reservoir howl when new. drove a new 93 Ford E250 V8 van for several years that Ford dealer put 3 new pumps in and numerous belts on, they all howled like banshees. miserable thing to parallel park.
Mine whirrs a bit, but this I've always believed to be normal. Pump up the front tires to about 33-34 PSI, The engine is right over the steering rack so it's got a fair bit of weight on it.
Jack up the front wheels under the central crossmember plate & start the engine , work the steering wheel from lock to lock several times & see if it gets better.
The good thing is now that I've done it once, know how and have broken loose the stuck bolts and added my in line filter, I should be able to do it in half the time.
