>hey I got a idea,
>
>how about all of us FTE'ers round up all our tater guns and
>form the first TATER militia

Too late. When I was in junior high school back in (mumble mumble) we made tennis ball guns using the coke cans. (this was when the cans were thicker and before coke narrowed the top of the can like they are now and a tennis ball would still fit inside) We mounted them on the handlebars of our bicycles and had "wars". I think we thought we were the Rat Patrol on bikes, which may help you figure the years I mumbled up above.

Have you thought about using an igniter such as toululene, or whatever that pain stripper stuff is? I've heard of it being used as race gas before in another forum. Maybe worth a shot? Its cheap!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Nov-02 AT 04:59 PM (EST)]I built a gun gun about a year ago. Its no tator gun, it shoots watermelons. I built my chamber to hold compressed propane. I fill the chamber to about 75-85 psi, push the ignitor button, which is attached to a 10 cord. Stand back. I have launched a melon over 2 miles. I have it mounted to my old 76 150's bed permantly. it shakes the truck really good. Its cool.

Ice Slugs are the best, take the same sized pipe as the barrel and freeze a solid slug of water into it, then heat it a little bit to get it out, then shape it w/ a knife or razor blade, they flie, nad they can kill just about nething

Fat trucker: Where do you fire this cannon? I would be concerned about where that melon landed and the damage it may do. Two miles is a long way. I suppose over the ocean or a large lake would be safe, otherwise, where? Man we have to see pictures.

My buddy built one at work that is air powered. not shore how it is built but they just put the pvc cap over the end of the pipe and turn on the air valve. You can hear it pressurizing then..........Bom. that cap goes so fast you cant see it.

I will try to take some pictures this weekend and post them for everybody. As far as where do I fire it, I live way out in the middle of the sticks, and my road has me and only 3 other people on it. It is about 4 miles long and very straight. I told my neighbors about it, and they said go ahead and fire. So we fire from the dead end of the road down it. My buddy stops traffic at the other end from coming down, and my neighbors just watch out. I shot whenever I can, only 5 or 6 times is all I've shot. Trust me, we play it safe, and nothing has every gone wrong.:P
