I have a '68 w/ a 289. I just installed a Centech wiring harness, and it runs, but needs a good tune up. I know it's not the original engine, it came with an I-6 from the VIN, and looking up for the timing, and plug gap, everything says go by the sticker in the engine compartment, yeah like this 40 year old beater is gonna still have that. Anyhow, all I have is a sticker on the valve covers that say

I don't know if that is anything that could help, but I'd appreaciate it if anyone knew anything. Also, when I went to go buy plugs, they gave me the thicker headed plug, which I had to return because I needed the smaller headed plugs, which came with about a .044' gap.
If you have points, gap em .035 if electronic ignition go the .044, timing try about 8-10* BTDC. Valve covers can't be trusted, get the cast# on block right near top of starter, usually have to remove starter to see it.
Look for a block casting # which are usually along the sides or behind the starter.
There should also be a stamped in date code too. On small block fords this is often on the water passage above the fuel pump. Stamped numbers are usually filled with paint or grime and are hard to see.
