After listening to a squealing noise for a couple of days, and just assuming it was the alternator starting to give up, I finally checked under the hood and found it was the ac pump. Loud and obnoxious... louder when I turned on the ac from the cab.
I also noticed some oil on the high pressure hose going to the condensor... sorry guys... ac system knowledge is not in my bag of tricks...
Are these two related? Just for the hell of it, I sprayed a little lube into the ac pump and the noise went away. Probably only temporary, eh? Is this noise thing fixable or is it time for a new one?

A/C compressor *Clutch bearing* is shot !
Take the belt off to prevent it from heating so hot the Compressor bearing fails too !
That's expensive.
I just R & R'd a clutch bearing for $50.
Took the truck to a radiator/air conditioning repair shop today. As I was driving, the noise seemed to quiet down to where I didn't hear it anymore. I explained my story to the mechanic. Long story short, 6 hours later I get a call at work from a different mechanic at the shop who tells me that the ac pump was leaking and needed replacement, the high and low pressure hoses were bad, the "o" ring to the accumulator needed replacement, the manifold compresor assembly needed replacement, as well as a few other odds and ends... and he could fix it all for just $930.00 parts and labor!!!
When I asked him about the noise coming from what sounded like the clutch bearing, he asked, "What noise?"... After checking for a noise, he concluded that the noise was from the water pump (which I had replaced with a new unit about 3 weeks ago).
Funny thing is, the air conditioning was working fine, noise or no noise... frosty cold and reliable.
