I did it on an old 4v iron intake i had, and yeah it will turn the performer inmidiatly to a single plane since all cyllinders will fill up using all 4 barrels helping you at higher rpm, but it will afect your low end torque which you already dont have so it doesnt matter, also 2" spacers with only a huge whole will help your high end horse power... to be exact you will gain about 25hp at 5500 and some torque at the same range...
I will be running a 3500 hughes stall converter anyway so there's the solution for the low end. So I think I'm going to try grinding out the seperator and run a 2 inch open spacer. It can't hurt to try. I think in a few years, I will eventually by some spacers and a 351c single plane intake. It cost me too much to build the engine @ $5699 not including msd ignition, distributor, spark plungs, wires, oil, and carb. I already had the intake and headers. What do ya think?
to be completly honest , i wouldve used a cmashaft with split intake and exaustr duration, it wouldve given you a wider usable range and more power due to the restrintions these heads have on the exaust ports, but yeah the intake thing sounds like a go..
hollenjoe, you said the chambers in my aussie heads should only be 54cc. Is that because of the larger valves? With my tmi pistons .010 above the deck what should i expect my compression ratio to be? And what is dcr?
