Does anyone know how to remove the PCV valve itself from the top of the valve cover? I have an '05 E350, v-10. I located the PCV valve on the drivers side valve cover near the rear. I was able to remove the hose from it, but I couldn't get the valve to come out! Has anyone ever done this before, or have any idea how it is done, ie. do you need a special tool?
Thanks Blitchy,
The dealership said the same thing, it should be rotated 180 deg. and come out. Guess Im not doing it right or something...I tried it with vice grips and the thing wouldn't budge, it was just a plastic nub sticking out of the valve cover-would not budge...this sucks. I do not want to pay the dealer to do it for me.
How often do you change yours out Blitchy? I got 45K the service manual says to consult dealer on changing it out..doesnt give a mileage for it.
Thanks for your help. If anyone else has done this before on a v-10 before I would really apprerciate any help.
I am bad with changing stuff like that. I have almost 90000 miles on my 02 e150 with the 5.4 and 85000 miles on my mustang 4.6. I have not changed either one. I just had to take it out for a blower install on the 'stang. Is there a specific reason you think it's bad?
If you tried vice grips and it didn't budge I would think that is not the pcv valve. It installs in a rubber grommet if I recall and should not be in there that tight.
Good luck with that. Did you get a price from the dealer? Shouldn't be much, it's a 10 minute job -- or it should be.
Again I am not sure about the v10 but I know the mustang was on the passenger side. The driver side has a nipple for fresh air intake. I have a feeling that is what you are trying to take out. The pcv valve is the nipple with the hose running to the throttle body located on the passenger side. The intake nipple has a hose running to the air cleaner housing.
Sometimes engine heat [& poor quality materials!] "cooks" & hardens the rubber grommet holding the PCV valve in the valve cover & makes removal tough. If you have the space, try removing the grommet together with the valve & replace both with new. Won't cost much more than the valve alone.....
Thanks Blichty and Zooom,
Im going to have another look at it when I get a chance and make sure Im tugging on the right part! The hose was pretty small and from what I remember the hose going to the PCV valve is usually at least 1/2". As to why Im changing it, just being precacious, its a cheap part to replace and I want to learn how to do it myself. Eventually I would like to get the Ford service manual for the e-series vans. I have one for my other vehichle and use it all the time.
