I'm not familiar enough with the IPR. Is the oil causing a short making the IPR move to the wrong position? If the oil contaminating the plug is the problem, could he barely plug the connector back on, thereby leaving a gap at the back of the pins where the oil could just drain out without the short issue?
I think the pressure reading from the ICP is what the IPR works off of. If it has a hole in it, it don't get a signal it can use and it may be shorting as well. I know it should start with it unplugged, but don't know if he can drive it unplugged, but I think I would be trying it.

I thought we were dealing with the electrical connector on top of the IPR? Did I miss something and he was talking about the ICP connector? He should be able to limp it home with the ICP unplugged, but not the IPR.
Your right, he did say IPR. I was thinking he had pulled the ICP connection and found oil there which would mean a hole in the sensor. Oil has to come for an outside source to get on the IPR plug. It doesn't hook into an oil source like the IPC. If he did mean IPR, the he has a leak bad enough to keep contaminating the plug. If that's the case, then wrap something around it to keep it dry.
Got it home on a tow truck batteries were getting low. Its been idling in the driveway for like 15 minutes though. LOL. Ya there was oil on the ipr connector not on the icp. it wasnt much but a little. Im hoping changing the ipr will fix it.
Curtis how did your go changing it out. tools, time etc?
It's not bad, messy but not bad. A deep socket is needed, I used one of those plumber tools, I think it is called a shower valve socket. Worked great, I will look and see if I can find the size. Put down some rags before you pull the IPR out as the oil from the resy. will drain out. I tried the rebuild others have done, but no luck, I had to replace it.
That's the part I wonder about. Did the oil get in there more than once? Make sure your IPR is not leaking. You also have HPO lines around it that could be spraying oil into the connection.
it seemed to diminish everytime i unhooked the connector, maybe it condensated on it overtime? The ipr may leak, not much though i cant tell the top of my motor isnt clean to tell for sure. Did you find out about that socket or where i can buy one?

Did you check my links? Look at the one New Page 0 (don't know why it came out that way) but it has the socket size and how to build a tool for the easiest removal. It also includes instructions on rebuilding the IPR if you're interested in that.
Ya thanks chris for the links i looked, i need the thing done so im not going to rebuild it and i dont have the tools to weld flat iron on so i was hoping to get a deep socket to fit it.
