Well I have done the research and it appears I may have to adjust the steering box on my 2000 Excursion.
I have the simple directions on how to do it... but to ask a silly question,
Where is the steering box so I can actually try fixing my steering which is loose to say the least.
Front lower driverside of the engine compartment. Just follow the steering shaft down from the firewall. There should be a little black plastic guard covering the top of it...you can't miss it.
Easiest to access after you remove the air filter box from a gas X. Remove the filter and pull the engine side of the filter box back toward the fire wall (bungy around it and hooked to the hood lifter works great). look right down and you will see the steering box down below. Nut with a allen head screw on top. Mark the position of the allen screw with a grease pencil or white crayon first. loosen the nut a little to allow you to turn the allen head screw clockwise no more then 90 deg (1/4 turn) use a open end wench to tighten the nut while holding the allen head screw in place. 10 minutes tops to complete this. I'm not sure what's in the way of you have a smoker engine.
