Im recently having a problem with my steering being very sloppy. I was wondering if their was a way to adjust the gear box or somewhere to tighten my steering back up? Thanks guys.
Yes, there is locking nut on top that you can loosen and turn the stud in the middle clockwise a 1/4 turn at a time. Try it each turn as it doesn't take much of an adjustment usually.
I did the same thing on my truck and it worked great. I might have to tighten it a little bit more but not much. Also I installed a new steering stabilizer which helped out also.
Also mark your initial starting position. Just in case the center pin turns while your turning on the lock nut. Or vice versa when your tightening it back up.
As mentioned, turn the allen head bolt a 1/4 turn.It takes a 4.5mm.It is easier to get the steering box where you want it if you have a partner move the wheel back and forth as you are tightening.Drive the truck.Make a right and left turn and if the wheel does not come back on it's own you have it TOO tight.
If you change your steering box do not mess with the local boxes.Go ahead and order a Redhead from Harvey. They are really good boxes and the cs is great.
Son of a biscuit! That was easy, and only took about 20 minutes to do 3 adjustments (16mm wrench & a 4.5mm allen wrench) and 3 test drives. I should have done that months ago! Thanks again for the post.
Rich.I snugged mine down a little last year and it lasted about 3 months until it got bad again. The box was pretty worn I guess.Changed it out with 2 boxes from Oreilly's.They had slack in them.Ordered a Redhead and it was good for about a month and started getting stick steer. Now I have had two of them installed and going to a Ford box to see if I can get rid of the stick steer.I have another thread going with all I have done.
