Sudden Stoppage

My 99 F250 7.3L just up and quit the other day. I was tooling along the freeway and it just snuffed. Any ideas?

We need more information.

Did you get it restarted? Does it try to start? How did you get it home?

How did it act when it quit? did it buck at all, run funny, make any noises?

It never restarted, I had it towed home. No warning at all. It tries to start and surges like ropppp ropppp roppp and then dies.

Does the tach move when you try to crank it?
Wait to start light on?
Any smoke out the tailpipe when cranking?
If the tach moves, what are the RPM's it reading?
Have you checked to see if you can hear the fuel pump cycle with the key on but not cranking?
Have you checked the engine oil level?
Help us out here.

that sounds just like when my mower runs out of gas. my diagnosis either the tank is empty and the fuel gauge is shot or the fuel pumpis shot or the fuel filter is clogged

the guage shows 3 quarters full and I remember fueling the other week. With the price of desiel I do not drive it much right now. Will the oil level shut it down?

Yes. The HPOP (high pressure oil pump) supplys oil to the injectors which fire the motor. Low or no oil pressure and she won't run.

i think you have a cloged fuel line somewhere the vaccum from the pump probbably pulled some debris towards the line and it was too big for the lie and when it cut off the flow of fuel your truck died and now since it has been sitting for a while the debris probbably floated down probbably to the bottom of the tank or out of the way at least

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? Have you had the cps changed yet?
