Interchangability of Ignition Module
The 1993 is a push start system and requires the gray module.
The 1994-96 is the CCD Ignition system and requires the Black Module.
And you all keep selling every body the wrong module and the sad thing is the customers do not know the difference.
True the gray one will start the 94-96 and it will run on it but not as good as it will run with the black one. Also the Check Engine Light will be on with the gray one.
The PCM Computer can not control the Dwell with the Gray one.
If you do not believe me look it up in the 94-96 Ford Shop manuals as they have it right.
The below images are from the Ford shop manuals and state the 1994 and above take the Black one and you can see from the images they are wired differently.
You do not have to work on many of these truck in this year range to run into this problem with part sources for these modules.

I'm going to dumb this down for you because I think maybe you are having a hard time understanding English.

>or black has been replace to Grey and now there is only one module and any and all updates have been done so one part number will work for any of these cars or trucks. You are working with old outdated information that was only relevant for a very limited time. now if the aftermarket companies are selling bogus parts and they list two different part numbers. I can't help that but OEM there is only ONE part number now. And just to be thorough I asked three different Techs in the shop to confirm what I already stated. All agree you have old outdated info and there is only one part now.
end of discussion!

You can go ahead and keep selling the wrong parts I do not care I am just trying to guide the poster here to the right part to fix his problem when the part guys are determined to sell the wrong part.
It seems your are determined to do that.
There is no way you make one module to fit two differently wired trucks at the Ignition Module and I think your three Techs need to go back to auto school.
Now I know why you can not take an older truck to a Ford Dealer and get it fixed.
You say the Black one replaced the Gray one that is fine for the 94-96 trucks but every time someone who owns one of these truck goes to buy one they try to sell them the Gray one. Why?
If the gray one replaced the Gray one the what are the pre 94 Trucks owners to do when they have a start wire running from the start relay to the module instead of the CCD wire from the PCM Computer and need a module?
Dave can you get through to him about this?
I sure can not seem to.
I do not want them leading the 94-96 F-series truck owners wrong.
This has nothing to do with dealer techs & parts personnel being wrong = NOTHING!
The bottom line here is that FORD MOTOR COMPANY made changes when they came out with the 5U2Z12A297D ignition module.
FORD MOTOR COMPANY says it works.
If you have a problem with that, don't complain to us, complain to FORD MOTOR COMPANY!
I'm sorry to be so damn direct, but you just aren't getting it!
