I have a 1989 Ford F150 Custom 2wd, 4.9L (300) inline 6. Where is my Fuel Pump Control Module? From what ive read/researched, Ford originally installed it on the cross frame above the spare tire, under the bed. I removed the spare tire but did not see the module. I also checked the frames and side rails but had no luck locating it there either. What am i missing/overlooking?
Your research is flawed. There is no fuel pump control module on this vintage truck. The computer controls the fuel pumps via the fuel pump relay. The computer (PCM) is located behind the driver side kick panel. The fuel pump relay is located on a socket under the hood.
Your truck will have a low pressure in tank pump in each tank(s). There will also be a fuel reservoir and a high pressure pump located on the driver side frame rail.
Your are correct, my research was flawed. The issue (i believe), is that I am not getting fuel. Ive replaced the starter motor, solenoid, throttle body gasket, and I have a good battery. She'll run when I spray starting fluid but as soon as that runs out, she'll sputter and die. In your opinion, whats the order of troubleshooting?
Since I am a mean spirited type of individual, my thoughts on first order of business involved a forum search for similar symptoms. You will find they are plentiful.
Trying to be a little more helpful, I would suggest you verify fuel pressure with a gauge at the fuel rail, test for symptoms on both tanks, check the inertia switch on the firewall and check trouble codes.
This seem to do the trick and she started right up without sputtering out and dying. However, when I went back out to start her again (retest), she wouldn't start. I jumped the battery (fearing I might have a battery drain and/or parasitic draw), and she started right back up again.
So now I have narrowed down the issue and will go from there. First step is to probably replace the battery then monitor any reoccurring issues I faced before.
