Just got a 2002 4x4 Ranger and it doesn't have a spare tire. The truck has 245/75/16 on aluminum wheels on it. Did the truck have a full size spare or did it have one of those mini size ones on it?
I found the same wheel and tire as is on the truck at the salvage yard for $125. Is that a decent price?
Also I have the old 15'" tires and rims off of my 89 F150 I had in college, would one of them work?
Thanks, I would check myself but I'm healing from a couple of cracked ribs 2 weeks ago.
they rangers usually have full size spares. I think that $125 is a little high for a spare out of the junk yard. they f150s had a different bolt pattern than the rangers but if you could find a rim to fit a ranger you could probally use one of the tires that you have.
If your truck did have a spare at one point in it's life, it would have had a full sized spare to match what it had. Possibly up to 235/75R15. Mine does anyway.
My '02 4wd Edge came with a slightly smaller spare (it looked full size.. until I took it off). I don't remember the size offhand, but I know it was small enough where I could not incorporate it into my tire rotation method
As far as I'm concerned, if the rim fits, the tire holds air and will get you home, that's good enough for me. My spare is only for emergencies, not to drive across the country.
Look around for an old steel Ranger wheel and get a spare tire small enough to fit under the truck or if you have the tow hitch, you will need one that will fit inside of that.
