it applies here too. but I just want to see those ads on tv when they were filming them.... Id put my stock 7.3 up against that tundra and pull anything you could think of.. on technology thats a decade older too.
Lets not forget...it's only a half ton truck. Put any real weight in it and it will drag the rear bumper. It seems that the newer half ton trucks which have come out are all about the 0-60 time unloaded and without a trailer in tow! I'd rather have a PSD pulling a heavy trailer and a bed loaded with firewood up a long hill than a half ton yota! At least I know I will make it to the top and have the brakes to slow me down on the other side of the hill!
The real problem in towing a 10k trailer with a tundra isnt the 5.7 engine - its the brakes, frame, and suspension. They arnt heavy duty and probably are rated to tow that much but isnt a great idea. The brakes will struggle. Half of towing is STOPPING (thats the more important part), not only accelerating.
A buddy of mine has one, nice TOYota with lots of gadgets inside but our STROKES is what we call real trucks. Don't buy into the hype you may get slightly better mpg but not when you compare power/mpg numbers
Go Back And And Give The Pos Sleezeman Your Cell Number To Have His "buddy" Call You Next Time He Tows That 5er. Tell That Slimey S O B If He Actually Does Tow It With Ease, You Will Come Back And Buy One, Give Them Your Truck And Let Him Keep Your Wife And You'll Give Him $500 Cash For The Great Tip......otherwise S T F U And Quit Being A Richard Head. (i Hate "sleezeman" )
A few weeks ago i was at the miller motorsports park just west of Salt Lake. There was a nice looking Tundra parked there on display. I stopped to talk to the sales guy..... he claims that the Tundra with the 5.7L V8 could pull my 10k 5er with no problems and that his buddy pulls a 15k 5er from SLC to Moab all the time, with ease....
call me crazy but i just can't see it. I sure would love to put it to the test....
And pigs fly at that sales lot too, right? I took my 5.3 GM up a steep grade at high altitudes and while it can tow the load, it would be stuck in 2nd gear at 30 mph. Oh, the load was a 1 place enclosed trailer. Dad's 7.3 had a bed camper and was towing a larger enclosed ATV trailer with no issues. Bet he could have pulled me and not noticed it.
It probably has the Toyota Racing Development sticker on the back. TRD for short. All it is missing is the "U".
why buy a tundra when if you buy a ford you can haul more and pull more(tundra hauls/pulls 2000lbs/10000lbs, ford f-150 hauls/pulls 3000lbs/11000lbs)
if you get the gmc with the 6.2L engine you can have more power than the tundra if you get a gm brand truck with a 5.3 you get the best v-8 gas mileage
tundra is just another truck just like dodge and nissan. ford, chevy and gmc all have the best of something and all have a limited slip diff unlike tundra(brake controlled traction device[<a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253F partner%253DZSzeb008%255FZJxdm088YYUS%2526i%253D1% 252F1%255F4%255F127%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/1/1_4_127.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252F nocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egi f%253Fi%253D1%252F1_4_127/image.gif"></a>]) thats my opionion
They're good trucks for the average homeowner, and that's alot bigger market than we are. It's suited to it's purpose, but people will always believe the hype/BS that salespeople tell them.
My friends that want a truck for carrying a single ATV, a couple sheets of drywall/plywood, and small loads like that would be better with the Tundra. I pull a 20' horse trailer, and pulled a stuck semi out the other week. No 1/2-ton is meant to do that. It'd be like putting Oscar de la Hoya in the same class as Mike Tyson, and both be at their prime. (OUCH)
My buddy has a 2006 Tundra Turd (TRD) he said his towing was at about 9k something not 15k. My truck leaves him way behind in a race. The first time he 4X4'd it he wasn't impressed either. I hung a tampon on the rear receiver and pissed him off.
hey rugermack thats fricken hilarious. heres my theory on half ton trucks if you want ***** get a gmc with a 6.2liter, if you want a work truck get the F-150 with a 5.4, if you want fuel economy get a chevy or gmc with the 5.3, if you want to look normal get a dodge, if you want to look like a pansie if you do a burnout get a TOYota if you just want to be different get a titan
I attended the Bassmaster Elite Series tournament here in TN about a week ago, and Toyota had a big setup there where you could test drive the Tundra (its the official truck of the series). You could test drive one unloaded, or pulling a trailer w/ 10,000lbs of weights. So I chose the one with the trailer.
I thought, well, what the hell, lets check it out, so I chose the one with the trailer. It had tow/haul, Prodigy-like brake controller, oversized brakes, etc. It did fine, but the poor part of the test was that the course they had mapped out only went down the road, around a subdivision and back. You don't really get it (if you don't tow much or own a diesel) that the part of towing where you need a diesel is on-ramps, hills/mountains, etc. So, I think it was not a good test. My 5.4 F250 I used to have would have done as well if not better.
Anyway, for the price tag (appx $34,000) it was overpriced I think, and for that money, you can get a big fat Powerstroke and be done with it, and have cash left over. Especially nowadays.
They thought they might have had a buyer in me, that is till they asked me what I drove. Kinda burst their bubble, I think.
i will say that i've seen one beat the hell out of at truck pulls last summer one night same truck two drivers both drivers made it to the pull offs. i was getting a little nervous that it might win but a 86 chevy with the 454 showed them what a real truck was. it seems that not too many people pull fords around me gas wise and fewer with a 7.3L in the diesel class. lots of chevys cummins and 6.0's
So the tundra is quick??? Well there was one at the local drags earlier this year and here is a picture of it about 80ft out from the start line, take a real close look over his hood.
