Mine does this, but I thought it was heat soak on the starter from the headers. whats vapor locking?

Paul, vapor lock is just that, the fuel in the line and in the bowl gets so hot that starts to turn to vapor, and essentially locks the motor up as it won't allow the fuel bowls to open to let more fuel in, causing the motor to be fuel starved. When it gets like that, try to pour a little fuel in the carb and see if it cranks over then. If it fires up and then dies, then you are vapor locked.

I'll have to try that next time it happens. What would cause the fuel to get that hot?

Routing of the fuel lines may be too close the the exhaust manifold.

UPDATE:
not the fuel lines being plugged. I replaced everything from the tank to the pump and blew out everything else with air. Next is the fuel pump.

not the fuel pump. Not the the needle and seat. The only thing left is crap pluging the pick up in the fuel tank. Everything else is new(besides powervalve). I hate throwing parts at things. I was for sure it was the fuel pump. I'll keep you posted.
