Took truck in this morning to have trans rebuilt guy calls me about mid-day and tells me that the truck has a 4R100 valve body in a E40D trans. Is that possible? I didn't think they were compatible, If not I guess I will be looking to get a new VB along with the rebuild. Any ideas?
My E40D is a E40/4R100 hybrid. I know the case is 4R100, so I imagine the valve body is as well.
When I swapped it, I had no dipstick. The original E40 wouldnt fit. I went to a local trans shop, they told me I had the wrong tranny. Called the outfit I got the trans from and they said get the 4R100 dipstick tube and run the trans.
Sure enough 2 years later it works great.
Its my understanding that they do that because the 4R100 has steel planetaries and stronger clutches. Then you just use the E40 controller deal that goes in the side.
ok well they got it figured out and should have the truck back on Friday. They are doing a complete rebuild with Red Eagle Clutches Triple Disc Billet Conv. Bigger Cooler Lines. and Billet Shafts. Should be fun to drive and will now be able to have Chip reburned for the Stage 2's.
