Just picked up my new truck..AWESOME doesn't begin to cover it...However..there is something I don't understand about the
heating/cooling/vent controls. I rarely use A/C..my idea of
A/C is driving fast with both side windows and back window wide open.
I leave the temp control in the blue area..and keep the dial
on the right of side of "Off" on the direction control..I just put the directional control to either upper/lower or lower vents as needed..so the air temp was always like the outside air.
Well, on this new truck I tried the same thing...I'm clearly not using the A/C side..I'm just trying to vent..yet it appears that
because I have the temp **** in the blue the air blowing out of the
vents is noticeably cooler than the outside air. It's clear that
the air is being cooled. So I'm assuming that my compressor is
running..which is not what I want. Hey, I'm running the V10..I
would rather save the power and gas for something good...not A/C.
I read the owners manual..and big surprise, it's no help. It notes
that where I have put the dial is distributing outside air..but how
or why is it being cooled? I know the compressor is running because when I park the truck I get the telltale water dripping from the compessor area.
What am I doing wrong? I know I can move the temp **** closer to the red..but I don't think I should have to do that..I just want outside air coming out of the vents. Help!!!
Congratulations on your new truck. Followed your question from the SD forum. The A/C will operate when the air flow selection is from floor and dash, 1st setting to the right of off. Ford says the compressor will not operate at below 40 deg F or around there while set to that position. To get fresh air with no compressor/AC, use the floor only or dash vents only positions. Also, leave your truck parked in either of those positions to allow it to "vent" according to the manual. Don't know why Ford did this, maybe the AC and ACMax only uses the dash vents but it has confused more people than you upon first use of their rigs. BTW, another misconception is that AC Max uses more energy than AC (at least a misconception on my part until I read the manual). AC Max just reuses cooled inside air while AC uses outside air. Use AC Max on hot dusty roads etc. Hope I'm right but someone else will correct me it not. Enjoy your truck.
Congrats on the new truck vinny!
FordsForEver is right, the only non-ac positions are Floor Only and Dash Only. It's not something that only Ford does, I've had other vehicles that have the same arrangement. I always wanted to put in a "A/C" switch so that I could manually control the A/C... maybe one day I'll do that.
