I have not owned my 1982 f-250 from brand new it currently does not have a catalytic converter installed was there from factory? Sorry about the spelling The truck has 351 and is 4 wheel drive. My inspection mechanic says there was one from factory in it?
Even if there was, the vehicle is manufacturer prior to 1983, which should make it exempt from requiring one unless it won't pass without one. If it passes the sniffer, you should be good, though local laws may be more stringent than federal law in your case.
It will depend on the GVWR of the truck. If it was 8500lbs or greater, it wasn't required to have a cat, but it would probably have 2 smog pumps. There should also be a sticker on your radiator support that says "NON-CATALYST" or "CATALYST".
My guess is that since it is an F-250, that it did not come with a cat. So long as the other smog equipment is working, and the vehicle can pass an emissions test, you should be good. And Sycostang is right, thee is a sticker either on the radiator support or somewhere under the hood that should state whether or not the vehicle requires a cat.

I drove a 1985 F250 service truck purchased new as a non catalyst with a 351 engine.
