04 V-10 Cat problems
04 V-10 Cat problems
Hi all, I have a question, I have a 04 Super Duty w/6.8, I have damaged the cat while off roading(it is crushed and I think the cake inside broke loose), the guy at the local muffler shop says he will cut it off and put a "test" pipe for $40, but he claims to check engine light will stay on...there is no O2 sensor past the cat so I dont see how this is posible...any of you run into this before? Thanks all,Chopper
Ok, you weren't clear on 2WD or 4WD, but I am showing several options. One converter has a 3 bolt front flange, and an O2 sensor behind it. Another option has a 4 bolt front flange and an O2 sensor on the top of the cat in the middle of the body. The third option is that there is a y-pipe that may be used in conjunction with one of the above mentioned rear converter units. In any case, all options my catalog is showing indicate that the rear cat is monitored.
The unit we would recommend to replace it cost effectively is this

Heres a thread of the exhaust I put on my V10. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...-fm70-mod.html There is pics there of the cat. My dad has an 03' V10 but a CC he is running a Universal cat and has no rear O2 also
Theres a lot of good info on the V10 up in the V10 forum, stop by sometime.
Starting in '03 or '04 many super duty vehicles had to start meeting OBD-II requirements. Your truck I guess could go either way, and my catalog gets sketchy on anything newer than '03. If you have the 4 bolt flange design, your rear O2 sensor is in the top of the cat. If you have the 3 bolt design and you don't see a sensor, then the cat isn't monitored, but you will probably need one to pass visual inspections. If you are in a smog area, you will have to pass smog tests too. One way or another you need a cat.

I have to have a cat on my truck to pass the visual inspection in my state, but I'm shure the laws vary state to state.. I have a 3-bolt flange.
