hi all, bought a ford 1985 f150 exd cab 4x4 std with long body,
originally had dual tanks now only has the front one. early 90s bed on it as well.
anyway the gauge reads empty, im figuring something at the cluster?
advice? tips. methods?
heeeeelp lol
Likely either the tank sending unit or float, both are common problems. To make sure the gauge is ok, you can remove the wire to the sending unit and temporarily ground it. With the ignition switch in "Run" the gauge should "peg" at full.
thanks if its the float how would I fix it? Im assuming if its the gauge Ill need to make sure of the wire connections or replace the gauge and if its the sending unit ill need to replace....

If it's the float you'll probablly have to drop the tank. The float is located inside the tank.
ok so if I have the tank dropped ( or could I remove the bed instead?) then what? what am I looking for exactly and how would I go about fixing it?
thanks again
