Is anybody running dual electric fans on their truck? How much better is it? I have a 79 F250 with a 400 and am considering to switch to dual electric fans. Any tips would be helpful.
Mine is not a typical case but A few things to consider are what type of fans are you going to run ? The voltage is important. the CFM rating is based on the voltage they are rated at so I would look for a fan that is rated at 12 volts verses 13.8 or 14 or whatever. the fans I have found that seem to have the best performance at 12 volts are the SPAL fans. Also if you run dual fans see if you can get a shrouded set. It will evenly pull air through the radiator instead of only pulling air through where the blades are. I looked at a site called Be cool radiators they are very knowledgable with cooling. I don't have there web address right now. They may just have a kit you can use for your specific application
Here are some comments I had in a previous post : https://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/hvac/131.html I like my setup; the engine is definitely quieter and easier to work on, plus I really do like the quicker warm-up time in the winter. I've got my engine out at the moment, and as I replace it I'm rewiring the setup as I described (with the factory-type temp sensor). Switching the fans on and off is sort of like breathing - it's important enough that you really want it to happen automatically. Having said that, I also want to be able to force them on at all times as well as turn them off, should the need arise. I'm not at all impressed with the adjustable thermostat that came with them, so I've drawn my own circuit up and should end up with a good, reliable, clean setup. You will more than likely need to upgrade your alternator, though, as they do suck up the amps. Hope this helps.....
