The average rent for a 3bedroom house here is $3500 a month, $800 for a "room" with shared common areas, or $1200 for a spot in an rv park. I got lucky, I knowthe owner of the house I am living in and my rent is only $1900/month.

Pretty tough work week. I guess it's a chance to make some pretty good money though.

Guess it helps to pay those big bills but are you ever any further ahead?
G`day Steve, Zip and everyone, it`s starting to warm up here now, it`s -8°F/-13°C and thankfully little in the way of any windchill.
How`s your BC weather these days Chris?

We had a little cold snap for 4 or 5 days. It is starting to warm up again today. Sitting at -9 right now. Supposed to get near 0 tomorrow and into next week.

We`re at -7 °C but a bit of freezing rain with some fresh snow made driving a real challenge!

Actually, yes. You are so busy working you don't have time to spend the money you make, and if you are smart, you stash away as much as possible so that you can buy a nice place somewhere else that is alot more reasonable. Alot of folks up here actally commute.

I think that with the high cost of living there it would be hard to stash much away. One of my friends worked in Yellowknife and he didn`t think it was worthwhile enough to stay more than a year or so.

That is where you have to play it smart! A lot of folks here live in their RV's, (which I did for 3yrs), a lot of others share a house, or as a family they have 2 well paying incomes. I have a great little house I rent with my daughter for $1875/mo, 3bdrms, 2baths, 2 acres lake front, back inVancouver the rent for a place like this would be around $3,000/monh but the wages would be a lot lower. So basically we are getting ahead
