It's been pretty well frigid here, minus 30's, with windchill factors of minus 40. I's supposed to warm up starting tomorrow, around -3. Sure hope so, tough trying to get the xmas lights up when the cord won't even bend, lol.
My poor old truck isn't going to start either. She's been "froze up" solid, for the past 2 days according to Kal Tire. It'sbeen parked in their lot since last Thursday. That subject is for another topic thread!!
I had not started my Lincoln since sometime last summer and I found that the battery froze tho I think it`ll be ok. It didn`t crack so after I thawed and charged it it seems to be holding a charge now.
My block heater had a short, and quit, so I booked the truck in to get a new one, then that same afternoon (Thurs), a tranny line gave out, while I was driving down the hwy. Froze my butt off for an hour waiting for someone to stop. Cell phone had died also! Just got her into the shop bay this morning - a whole friging week later. Now they say I have a 1/2 " whole in the rad! Total cost, approx $2,000. You don't want to know what I said.
That was for a new rad and to install it, not including the original reason I took the truck in!!!! they quoted me $1,000 for the rad and then 5 hrs to install it, $150 for a blockheater and 2 hrs labour, then $350 to 450 for custom made trans coolant line , and 3 hrs to install that!!!!!!
Time to move else where, I couldn`t afford to live there! No wonder you towed your truck out of there.
I suppose all the repair shops are the same in the area.
Not all as bad as this. I priced out a new rad at $200, block heater at $26, and a new tran line at $2.00/foot. The mark up from the shop was unreal. Local neighbor (retired Suncor ford mechanic) will charge $80/hr and make sure the job is done right.
Guess they thought all blondes were dumb, lol. Even got the towing for free
Sounds like Fort McMurray isn't the place to have emergency work done. We have a shop in the town where I live where they seem to prey on the unknowing customers.
Fort Mac is no the place to need emergency work, either on your vehicle or for medical reasons! I had the appt. booked since last Thurs for today, 7 days!
When I got sick with phnuemonia, first week of Oct, it took me 3 days to see a doctor!
Still lots of work here, if you know the right people, if you get my drift. The cost of living here tho, can make or brake you. It only takes 1 bad month to set you in the hole here as the cost of living is out of this world.
