XCAL2 NOOB Question

I recently bought a used XCAL2 off EBay. Kinda one of those things you low bid on not really meaning to win...but no one else caught it in time and I ended up with it ($100 + $9 ship). The previous owner had it on same year / engine as mine (2004 6.0).

It has the ID banner and 3 custome tunes from them (street, tow/agg, & econ). Now my question is...is there a way to copy/save these files from the X2 to my PC? Was thinking about trying several of the Sparton ones out...but don't want to loose these forever. I did pull Liveload down and am able to connect with the X2 w/o probs.

Thx!

did you unlock it first? I don't think you can copy the tunes to your computer. Don't worry about it. Just email eric and he'll probably get you some new ones for free.

You need to make sure that the Xcal2 device has your stratagy of you truck before you install any tunes. If the device hasn't been unlocked and still tied to the former owners vehicle, you will need to send the Xcal2 to SCT so they can unlock it.

Unit says "STAT=STOCK. 5 CHANGES LEFT". on menu...so I think I am good to go with this one and don't need to send to SCT. Unless I'm wrong, still have 5 unlocks left...correct? I'm not even sure the original owner ever used it....or at least RESET HIS TO STOCK..before selling.

when you scroll through the menu plugged into your truck's OBDII what is your truck's strategy code?

BTW you can save those three tunes download them to your PC but you need a Xcal dump file first.
You can get this file from SCT's website.

Strategy is VXAP2TQAUO...so it looks like it is actually a 2003 build year (according to how the tuness are listed on Spartan's site).

Thanks for the info on dump file. Will down load from SCT.

Still haven't convinced myself I'm actually going to try it out. I have one of the early build 6.0s. Mine has 76k trouble free miles...with the exception of (1) trip to dealer for water-in-fuel sensor. Would like it to stay dependable for many more to come. Do have gauges and 4" unrestricted exhaust already though...but nothing else.

Oh well....maybe one day I'll grow some bigger b_lls and give it a try.

if you were going to have a problem, my guess is that you would have experienced one by now with that many miles anyway.

Does anyone have a direct link the "xcal dump" file from SCT (to pull files off of the programmer to the PC)? I've been all over their website and can't find.

Is it posted for download...or do I need to call them and have a copy emailed to me?

Another question that has come up I'm needing help with..

I was talking to one of the tuning vendors today and gave them my truck's strategy (VXAP2TQAUO...read from Xcal2 unit while connected to truck). The vendor stated that that was an old strategy code and that I needed to update the firmware on XCal2 unit and re-read the strategy...they mentioned that it should be 7 chars. long.

Does this sound right?? Would updated firmware actually have the XCal unit return a different strategy code when read from the truck? I am sure the guy knows what he is talking about...just doesn't make sense to me.

One more thing...the unit is currently at v1.10
