Auto Trans Trouble

I have a 2001 F-250 with a 7.3L and a auto transmission. The truck has 111K on it and yesterday the tranny started holding in 1st way too long until I would lift on the accelerator, then it would shift to 2nd. Today I went out for a spin and it was still shifting the same and the OD light was flashing. Any ideas??

Hate to say this, but you better have some pennies saved. Mine did the same as yours. At 100,000 miles, had it rebuilt by local tranny man for 1,500$. works great.But wish I would have gotten the purple transmission from ATS Deisel Performance.

Before you buy a new tranny, change fluid and filter to see if that matters. If you want a true bullet proof tranny, Check out the BTS tranny.

Don't waste money changing fluid now. You really need to read the codes to find out what's wrong, but being a 2001 it is most likely a failed mechanical diode. That means either a new trans or a complete rebuild. Sorry.

Thanks for the replies fellas..... I was just reading about failed mechanical diodes. They were built from Aug 2000-Mar 2001. My truck was built 8-2000! Dang the luck!

i was gonna say isnt it a speed sensor or somethin that goes bad that causes the OD light to flash

It's almost anything that makes the trans not work correctly that makes the OD light flash. A speed sensor is just one of about 50 things that can make it flash.
