I just bought a 05 F250 and i'm shopping for a tune to help with fuel mileage and a lil extra power. But i'm still worried about the head gaskets with a tune. A friend of mine has a Edge or Eveloution Outlook, i'm not sure which one he said it was. He said i can have the programmer if i wanted it. But i read somewhere that those programmers are dangerous, but i also read that they were one of the best out there. Thats where the dilemena comes in. I really don't have the funds for a custom tune or tuner for that part. But i have a nice programmer for free. So i don't know what to do. Any suggestions?
I have the edge programmer but have only three options
Towing
Emmissions or Racing meaning I can change the parameters of the chip to whatever option I am required to do however be warned overheating can occur in some circumstances and in one of the programs it disengages the speed limiter if you have a diesel so therefore read the instructions that come with the programmer
The 6.0 had some issues, but just about anything is fine on the 5.4 and 6.8. There are always going to better options, but for the price of the free tuner it will be hard to go wrong with it.
With the 6.0 just don't use the highest settings and you should be fine for any duty. From what I understand, the 6.0 has either high compression, a turbo that can put out a lot of pressure or weak head bolts. In any case as long as your not trying to double the boost you shouldn't run into this issue.
my truck had the bully dog power hound on it when i bought it....but i also had a oil leak etc and took the programmer off before going to ford...never put it back. i miss the power but i dont miss the fear of messing up my 6.0
