What bugs you about forums?

I just spent about 2 hours reading threads in the Expedition and F100 forums, as well as many others. You know what REALLY irritates me? I absolutely cannot stand when a user posts and explains a problem, then about 50 users who have like 5 posts to their names and havent completed filling out their profiles, post one or 2 sentences naming a part that in no way can possibly be causing the original posters problems, but they think their opinion matters.

For example:

Original Poster:
Hey guys. When i accelerate i hear a whining sound that goes faster when the RPM's increase. Has anyone had the same problem?

Replier #1:
Have you changed your oil lately?

Replier #2:
PCV valve.

Replier #3:
Sounds Like An Input Shaft Problem In Your Trans. Does It Do It When You Are In Neutral?

Original Poster:
Do you guys think i have some time before something breaks, or should i have this looked at by a mechanic sometime soon?

Replier #4:
Its your muffler bearing.

Replier #5:
Are your brake calipers sticking?

Replier #6:
What does it sound like? Can you take a video and post it on youtube for us to see?

Original Poster:
I took it to the mechanic today and he found the idler pulley was going bad. Thanks for the excellent help everyone!

Excellent help my rear. I see so many of these types of posts, it reminds me why i hate reading HUGE forums sometimes. Go do a search for anything and take a look at the kind of clutter comes up in the results, LOL. Why cant people just continue to lurk if they dont have the experience to offer valuable advice? Ill never understand that one....

For those who know what they are talking about and offer sound advice with patience and understanding.... .

dave dave dave, see the problem you are having is that us in the So Cal forum are just so helpfull and knowlagable (helpfull not good speller) that when you go to other sections the advise is not as good....but i truly hope that the muffler bearing was a joke...and there is no way i would make a video and post it up on you tube....but advise like this is what makes forums so much fun, you can laugh at the crazy things you read....

Lets see.

People answering the question with a part when more questions are needed to really get to the problem.

People that can't do a simple google search to find an answer and instead just ask a question in a thread. This usually pertains to conversions, contact info or other simple things that take 5 seconds to find out with good old google.

I've mentioned it in the other thread about forums but people who post 2-5 times in a row instead of just editing their first post.

People who type with cap lock on or never us a period.

There is a lot more that just isn't coming to mind right now.

There is a funny "how to" about forum posting on the internet that I am sure someone will post up that addresses all these things and much more. Maybe I'll google it later if I feel like it

Just remembered my BIGGEST pet peeve, those damn spam Emails about Robin Williams, gas prices and everything else that are all full of trash and obviously total BS. Yet people get that email and feel the immediate need to post it in the forums because obviously no one else has ever seen them.

hmmm things that bug me most about forums, spelling, grammer and punctuation police first and formost. that adds virtually NOTHING to the thread, people that post "I agree" or some such drivel without having anything to add to the thread in question.
I guess my number 1 would be people that worry to much about what someone else posts or how they post it.

The innernet allows you to meet all kinds of idiots you never would have had the chance to in person.

i dont like bashing
i know some people need it, but i really dont want to read about how much someone is wrong in a thread about brakes. i really dont. maybe in the off topic thread, not when im looking for answers.

When someone posts a question about a problem and it gets answered in the first couple posts, but then it goes on for another 20 or so posts of "helpful" solutions.

I especially like the posts that after four or five responses to the original poster someone will chime in about something totally unrelated and everyone else after that will run with it. Some of these just go on forever and never get back to the original subject.

All of the above.

I also hate it when I post a response to help someone out, and due to one small detail (usually obvious) someone has to point out what I left out. Or I'll post a fact that I'm absolutely sure is true and someone will always post an something uneducated saying I'm wrong.

I hate it when I'm trying to use search to find something and it brings up 80 gajillion posts that are only very loosely related to the actual phrase I'm searching for...
