Its not so much the wrong advice that annoys me, it the people that will take that advice as truth, without researching it. I will ask around about a problem that I cant fix, and each response that seems legit, will get some research to see if that could actually be the problem.
Someone will take the muffler bearing serious and will offer the advice to anyone who has a problem that might be remotly similar.
One of the things I find anoying, is when a person asks a question and states they arent really happy with their vehicle, and guys chime in saying stuff like:
I have 15,000 trouble free miles on my truck and havent had that problem! (cmon now you have barely even drove your truck to see if it has a problem)
or
Why dont you just TRY this part, or that part. (cause throwing random parts to fix a problem is the way to go)
or
Its covered under warranty take it to a dealer. (some guys like working on stuff on their own trucks)
One must remember that it is only the internet. The internet is not a place to get a free complete and accurate diagnosis of your problem. Forums are great for getting you pointed in the right direction to find your problem.
I know how you all feel. One thing that bothers me is when users will post a problem, but they have the solution fixed in their mind and don't want to accept anyone else's advice, even when their own solution isn't fixing the problem. If you won't accept anyone else's advice, why are you posting on a public forum in the first place? 9 times out of 10 the story is connected to the ignition coil for some reason, too. How many times have you seen this one:

Hi all, my truck is backfiring through the carb when I get on the gas and sometimes it stalls out. I'm pretty sure it's the ignition coil. I've replaced it twice now and it still does it. Do I keep getting bad ones?
Patient FTE member trying to help:
That sounds like the timing is off, or you're running very lean. Have you checked the accelerator pump in the carb?
Poster:
OK I replaced the coil again and it still hasn't fixed it. Anyone try an MSD Blaster coil? I'm going to try that next.
