an issue with forums

Ok I have a little problem with people not finishing their threads. You know that problem you have with your vehicle that someone else has and you read the post and the person doesn't finish? Yeah that issue! So there you are having an issue and you search and BAM, you see others having the same issue. You read down the thread and NOTHIN. People telling the person to check this and that and some how there's no solution (which we know there was) or better yet the tread turns into chat about grandma or something completely unrelated. Look I love my grandma, but auto forums are not the place to discuss dads corns or grandmas hip replacement. JUST TELL US WHAT THE FIX IS!!!! Thanks for allowing me to rant. Happy solutionless forum reading.

I agree this is an issue that if resolved would really be helpful. I did a post on the towing forum asking folks to do just that and maybe if you posted on the forums you frequent requesting follow-up, the idea would catch on. I have also started to rep folks who follow up.

Its not an attack on anyone and the solution is not to go some place else. It is just an idea that might make a good thing even better. My two cents worth.

Maybe we can work together to find ways to do both.

I have found lots of answers by checking out old threads. When that doesn't work, I start a new one, and try to post what really worked. Of course, the "try this, try that" may be just what is needed, because sometimes one symptom might have many different causes in different trucks. "My 4WD ESOF isn't working" has more than one solution, depending on what is not working (electrical, pneumatic, or mechanical).

Agreed! If this site doesn't suit someone they just need to find one that does.

Yeah sure in a perfect world a newbie could stumble in here, post one stinkin' question and get an answer---then never again reply, respond or contribute anything at all. If I can help I will but if the question makes no sense or the OP can't/won't provide requesting follow-up info I don't waste my time or FTE's bandwidth.

If someone needs to rant or vent after only 10 posts such as OP I'm not real eager to get bogged down with that sort of angst.

This is a forum with a wealth of knowledge and friendly members. Try other forums and members "tear you down" if in their mind it is not worthy of their "expertise".

So we go "off topic" sometimes; big deal!

I am not a mechanic nor even close; just the proud owner of a Ford Truck.

I do not care if the new thread or reply is long and there are members who stay up late or get up very early. THEY ARE HERE TO HELP myself as well as others, including you!

If something is wrong we have the Moderators to "straighten things out."

I do not know about YOU but I am staying with FTE.

Take it easy

Never said the word unhappy in my rant. I was just pointing out the obvious. It happens everywhere and way to often.

Another issue that compounds the problem is people posting topics in the wrong forum. For example this rant is really about general automotive issues General Automotive Discussion - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums but is posted in the general non-automotive discussion forum General NON-Automotive Conversation - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums.

Some people just don't pay attention, I guess.................

the way i read this was it is a rant about people coming here looking for help fixing a problem with their vehicle, and then falling off the face of the earth, never coming back to say what the fix was.
not a rant about a thread going off topic.
